Meet Our Muse, Sloan

Sloan is a beautiful black cat with fur that has become perfectly rusted from hours resting happily in the sun. We rescued her when she was 6 months old, after she was previously returned to the shelter after a first adoption with her littermate. She was returned alone due to urinating outside of the litter box, an often misunderstood behavior that turned out to be a common and easily resolved medical issue.

Sloan represents more than one common misunderstanding about cat behavior, she was also up against odds simply because she’s a black cat. As you can see from the stats, black cats are severely underrated.

By the time Sloan was returned to the shelter, she was much older than the fuzzy headed 8 week old kittens most people were there for. Well, we weren’t most people, and when we visited the shelter for a holiday adoption special, this stunning, perfect girl caught our attention immediately.

Her shiny black fur, petite frame, and skinny tail; the way she looked at us, talked to us, and let us hold her right away. We fell in love, and after hearing her story we knew it was meant to be.

She came home with us and got healthy - when we took her to the vet, where she was treated for struvite crystals and a severe UTI. She also got happy - she quickly bonded with our other cat and with us.

11 years later, she is my best friend and soul mate, and is alongside as Meowaukee takes shape, helping us help more cats like her.
